We were not sure if we would be able to go because a few days before, Sumner had a virus. Luckily, he got better in time for us to leave. We hit the road around 8:00 am. We didn't make it far, though... We stopped at Chik-fil-a in Tifton for breakfast, my FAVORITE! Our next stop was Best Buy in Macon to buy Sumner a DVD player for the ride. And of course, we couldn't pass through Macon without stopping by Bass Pro. Matthew and his daddy loved looking/shopping and Sumner enjoyed being out of the car and seeing the huge fish tank. Before we got back on the interstate we ate lunch at Zaxby's.
We made it to our cabin about 6:00 that afternoon. It took a while because we had to stop a lot to change Sumner's diaper and because there was a pregnant passenger who needed frequent restroom breaks :) Once we unloaded everything we jumped right back in the car went to eat supper at Cracker Barrell. Our cabin was high on top of Lookout Mountain so it took about 30 minutes to get to the nearest town with a restaurant or a grocery store. We got back to the cabin around 9:00.
The next morning, Sumner had us all up by 6:00 am. We had a busy day ahead of us so we got dressed and were ready to leave by 8:00. First, we went to Ruby Falls. We found out once we got there that strollers were not allowed, so poor Matthew had to carry Sumner through the caves and back which was over a mile long. After we left Ruby Falls we did some sight seeing and found a nice local restaurant to have lunch. After lunch we went to the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway and rode it to the top of Lookout Mountain. Sumner fell asleep in his stroller when we were in line waiting to get on and he slept half way through the ride. We did some more sight seeing when we got to the top and let Sumner run around and play. He really liked the ride down, too, because he sat with mama in the front and was able to see a lot. We left there around 3:30 and went to Rock City. Once again, we found out once we arrived that strollers were not allowed, so Matthew got the job of carrying Sumner through Rock City. This was an even longer walk. We did let him down to run at times, but they were few and far between because there were too many places he could get hurt. We left Rock City around 6:30 and went to a grocery store to get sandwich stuff to eat for supper. We had snacked all day at the various snack shops each place had, so no one had a big appetite. We got back to the cabin around 8:00 and put Sumner to bed and the adults went to bed shortly after because we were all pretty tired from such a busy day.
Saturday morning Sumner woke us up around 6:30. Again, we all went ahead and got ready and left the cabin by 8:00 and headed towards the Tennessee Aquarium. The aquarium had two parts so we toured one part, then stopped for lunch, and went back and toured the second part. I wasn't sure if Sumner would really enjoy the aquarium since he was so young, but he actually did. We took the stroller, but for the most part we chased him around and let him stop and look at everything. His favorite thing in the whole place were the ducks. They really tripped him out. I bet we stayed at that spot for 20 minutes and he laughed and laughed and laughed. There was also another tank with a particular fish that he enjoyed playing with. The fish must have liked Sumner, too, because he kept swimming up to Sumner in a sneaky way which would startle Sumner but then he would get tickeled. After we left the aquarium we found a Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop and had a snack. Then we got on the Chattanooga bus and it took us to the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. We toured it and Sumner took a nap in his stroller. Then we got back on the bus and went to a burger restaurant called "The Urban Stack" for supper. A lot of people recommended it so we thought we would try it out. To say the least, we were not too impressed. Oh-well... We got back to our cabin around 9:00.
The next morning Sumner slept until 7:00. Of course on the day we had to get up and get ready to leave he would sleep later... We got everything loaded up and were gone by 10:00. We drove to Chickamauga to see where my mama's family was from. She spent a lot of her summers there with her grandparents. It was neat to see my great-grandparent's house, the church where my Mee-Maw and Pee-Paw were married, and the school my Mee-Maw attended. We also went to the Chickamauga Battlefields. My parents took us there when I was little so it was neat to take Sumner there, too. While we were there we climbed the huge tower. Again, Matthew got the luxury of carrying Sumner up who knows how many stairs! When we left the battlefields we drove to a nearby town and ate lunch at Golden Corrall. We left headed for home around 1:30 or so. Again, we had to make frequent stops to change Sumner's diaper and for me to empty my pregnancy bladder. When we got to Macon I noticed we were taking a bit of a detour... Yep, Bass Pro, here we come again. Luckily it was about 45 minutes until closing to Matthew's daddy and Matthew had to move fast. We were probably the last people to leave that night. We are supper at a nearby KFC, got gas, and didn't stop again until we got home around 9:00.
We all had the best time ever. Sumner was so well behaved and made the trip worth wild for everyone. I know I can speak for everyone when I say this was a very special trip and we made memories we will never forget! It is just so nice being together with the people you love the most!
